Black History Month

Celebrating Black-Owned Businesses, Entrepreneurs and their story.

In 2018, KMD Kandles was created by Kendra Davis. Our mission is to offer the most fragrant, clean-burning candle that will enhance your mood positively. “I love the way each candle scent brings me into a sense of peace and relaxation. Clearing away the day’s worries, providing me a clean slate to take on the new journey each day brings forth.”

As an independent, Brooklyn, -based product designer, Marc was surprised at the lack of options out there for carrying odiferous products. “People were using everything from shoeboxes to bags with some function but very little style.” Enter the STOW Collection, elegant leather stash bags with distinctive scent-neutralizing technology. Now you can be discreet and discerning at the same time.

What initially started as a place to share her thoughts and experiences as an auntie (through blood AND love) has turned into a different kind of creative outlet for Sarah Miller. In the second half of 2018, “I began using cement as my medium to create fun planters and candles. It turns out my biggest lesson in 2018 was: If I’m not creating something with my hands, I’m not happy.”

Gwell / Brooklyn, NY

Founder Fawziyya Sugai started Gwell with the goal of making more approachable wellness foods available for all. “I always say that I founded Gwell to help people to find the balance they are seeking, but it is more than that. The food we eat has a significant impact on our health and well-being. I wanted to create clean foods that actually help you to function better without all of the nasty ingredients that can harm you long-term.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
