She is the Mother of Yucahu Vagua Maorocoti, which means white yuca, and is as powerful as the sea and the mountains. She was honored in an important yearly festival.
She is most commonly depicted in the birthing position, representing a nurturing maternal figure. Taino women would call upon her to watch over them during childbirth.
The apparent association of the goddess associated with childbirth with bones of the dead may be interpreted as evidence that the Taino understood the role of death in birth, fertility and the re-creation of life.
